the feast of St Pancras, at Compline
I saw Jitka at mass and she asked after her iron comb again. I only have one last batch of piecework for Master Tobias to finish. The thread must be perfect. I will bring it back by Sunday.

wool spinner, of Kuttenberg
“I spin a fine thread for the weavers and keep my head down. A copper stretches if you know how.”
Things Vlasta Miller had written, latest first, with the glosses of her neighbours.

the Wednesday after Easter, at None
Quarter day is near and the widow Edith is hovering like a bloodsucking tick. I tried to hold back a penny for the broken shutter and she threatened the bailiff. God grant her a swift journey to purgatory.
She charged me a whole groschen just for a new iron hinge on the door.
You will pay the rent you owe, Vlasta, or you will sleep in the mud.
Nota scribaeI reminded her that it is a sin to wish death upon one's landlady. She only smiled softly and told me to write it anyway.
the eve of Palm Sunday, at Prime
Helena is looking in the dirt for that wooden bird again instead of spinning. I keep my eyes open for it. Pavlena says we should save more coin, but starving oneself for a silver pin is pure madness.
A good silver pin lasts longer than a bowl of mutton stew, Vlasta.
Thank you for looking, Vlasta. It was my favorite carving.
the Wednesday after St Matthias, at Sext
Took some of the heavier fleece off Elizabeth today. The damp gets into the joints, I reckon. Better than wasting breath shouting about Emma's old ruined apron like Kona does.
That apron was good stout linen, Vlasta, and Emma was a clumsy fool!
God bless you for the help with the wool. The damp has been terrible this week.
Nota scribaeShe smiled the entire time she dictated this, never raising her voice.
Candlemas, at Vespers
Jitka was good enough to lend me her iron carding comb today. The wool is so tangled this winter, but this fine tool will make Master Tobias's thread sing.
See that you return it before Lent, Vlasta. I need it for my own piecework.

You said Sunday three weeks ago, Vlasta. My own wool is sitting in knots.
The Lord tests our patience, Jitka. Just two more days, I swear it.
